Day 7 (July 12, 2018):
We probably should have woken with the birds and spent our last morning in Poland visiting neighboring Sopet or Gdynia, or walking the beach in the rain. But we said to each other, "We are on vacation! So forget the rain, forget the sights we haven't seen, a few extra hours of sleep is allowable!"
Hence, the day went like this: Up at 8:30AM (gasp!), breakfast, departed for Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport at 10:30AM, flew to Warsaw at 12:00PM, spent the afternoon in the Preludium Business Lounge at Warsaw's Chopin Airport, and then flew to Braislava, Slovakia at 4:30PM. We arrived at our hotel 7:30PM, making for a nine-hour door-to-door travel day. It was all fairly routine and non-stressful. Topped by a Korean meal at a restaurant on the Danube River.

We are impressed with what we have seen of Bratislava so far. Friday promises to be a perfect sunny, warm day for exploring the city. And our hotel - the Sheraton Bratislava - is a really nice spot, right on the Danube and next to the new performing arts centre.
Before you view the pics below, let's understand one thing: on a travel day, there isn't much to photograph. Except, planes, airports and, say, Pam in an airplane seat. So please bear that in mind as you scan the pics below! Check in for the story on Bratislava tomorrow!
LOT Polish Airlines Embraer 195 flight from Gdansk to Warsaw. |
And this, friends, is Wizzair. Hmm, not sure about the choice of name. But it is now one of the biggest "ultra low cost carriers" in Europe. The panoramic photo makes the Airbus A-320 look huge, but that's an optical illusion. We boarded through the back door, which is always exciting, as we never get to do that in Canada. |
Um, I can say nothing more than the text balloon says! |
On final approach in Bratislava. Beautiful countryside, with some great hills. |
And this would be... Kansas? Not quite! |
Statue of Milan Rastislav Štefánik, a Slovak politician, diplomat and astronomer. During World War I, he served at the same time as a general in the French Army and as Minister of War for Czechoslovakia. He was one of the leading members of the Czechoslovak National Council (the resistance government). |
The mighty Danube a river is 2780 km long. It passes through ten countries, including Slovakia. Here in Bratislava, there is a new river walk lined with cafes. A perfect place to enjoy the evening. |
In case you didn't notice the river cruise ship in the photo above, I'm enlarging it for you -- aren't those lips something else?! |
From our dinner table: a river cruise ship passes quietly by. |
Looking up-river on the Danube at dusk. |
